How to get a Real FREE Credit Report

With credit scores becoming a 'crucial' element in not only establishing interest rates, but becoming the deciding factor in your ability to purchase a home these days it is more important than ever to make sure yours is perceived in the best possible light.  That being said the wise buyers will tackle their own credit reports and correct any inaccurate information, removing any tarnishes beyond their dates, disputing any questionable claims etc. to improve their score to the highest possible in preparation of those casting judgement.

When you check your credit score routinely you are also checking for any new accounts that may have been opened without your permission.  You are in essence protecting yourself from identity theft without having to pay some company for this service.

Illinois in addition to numerous other states mandate that you are entitled to a free credit report from all three credit reporting agencies once a year.  If you would like to be proactive in dealing with your credit the solution is rather simple. Request a free report every four months from a different agency each time.  There are three credit reporting agencies - Experian, Equifax & Trans Union.  The reports are very similar to each other but sometimes do contain different information about you.  Simply request a report from a different reporting agency every four months and you'll be set for life.  To ensure you're not charged, make sure to stick with the SAME ROTATION when requesting the reports. (one request per agency per year)

You can access all three agencies through this link.   To obtain your truly free credit reports - go to:  http://www.annualcreditreport.com/ I urge you to be proactive.

Be aware however, there are numcerous sites out there that prey on your less than perfect typing ability.  One seemingly insignificant keystroke could land you on a different site that actually charges, yet they call themselves free.

Good Luck in staying on top of your credit.

Will 2008 go down in history?

Will 2008 be the new 2005?

Is 2008 going to be the new 2005?  Is it going to go down in history as the year that everybody wished they had a bought a home, just as 2005 went down as the year everyone wished they had sold their home?  Unfortunately it is rapidly becoming a case of where one man's "mis"fortune is another man's "good" fortune.  There certainly are some spectacular deals for the taking out there if you look for them and even better ones if you have time on your hands to wait for a bank decision.  A few builders got greedy and are now paying the piper, at the benefit of savvy home buyers. Spec homes are being picked off quickly further depleting existing inventory and cautious builders are pre-selling homes prior to building to guarantee their profit margins.

There is no time like the present for anyone even considering buying.  Bear in mind that interest rates remain at historically low levels.  It's time to capitalize and take advantage of this market before it begins to rebound and stablilize   In general we learn from our mistakes, thus there probably won't be another opportunity to purchase discounted homes like this for many years to come.   This fire sale won't last forever, and "you'll need to get while the going's good."  The bottom line is everyone needs a place to live, and if this market affords some people who otherwise would not be granted this opportunity (more first time buyers), then maybe this is a GOOD thing.  you think?

For those of you still on the fence, call me for information on how to make this market work for you.
